Meet the new BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor

Besides the Goodwood Festival of Speed, this weekend we also have the OutDoor Friedrichshafen fair in Germany, and BMW will take advantage of this meeting to introduce its latest concept, the Active Tourer Outdoor. This plug-in hybrid is a bit misleading. The name "Outdoor" brings us to a vehicle destined for other types of roads, perhaps more uneven, but that's not it.

BMW just painted the exterior in an exclusive Gold Race Orange, partly painted the 20-inch wheels in the same color, and fitted the interior with Alu (aluminum) Mesh MoonGrey trim surface, MoonRock Grey Steron and MoonWhite leather. The interior also features several parts in Gold Race Orange to match the exterior.

This concept uses the same powertrain already seen in the concept shown at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Remember the Concept Active Tourer? This is pretty much the same car. It has a turbocharged 1.5-liter petrol engine and an electric motor driving the front wheels. Together they generate 190PS (140kW or 188bhp). This concept can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in under eight seconds, and it only stops accelerating when it reaches around 200km/h (125 mph).

It has an average fuel consumption of under 2.5 liters per 100 kilometers (112.99 UK mpg or 94.09 USA mpg) and will only emit 60g/km of CO2. In pure electric mode this concept has a range of around 32km (20 miles).

The only real innovation is the bike carrier system, that consists of a rail system with a pivoting bracket on the left side, while the wheels, that need to be removed, and so does the saddles, are secured in a separate holder integrated into the right-hand rear backrest.
